Who doesn’t love surprises?

18 May, 2011

Many posts ago, I presented you with my wishlist of my most coveted items for this spring. While looking at those pictures my love for one specific item from this list grew bigger. Of course I’m talking about the Arty Oval Ring by Yves Saint Laurent.

After much thought, I decided to order it online from Net-a-Porter, but I wasn’t sure about the right size. I don’t want to bore you with many details, so I’ll just say that I did order it (with the help of my boyfriend and his credit card), but there was a problem with the shipping details, while at the same time, the item was being sold out, especially after a free-shipping promotion they ran for a few days. So, without any news from NAP for 2 weeks, I was sure that my order wasn’t going to be delivered. Waiting for their email only made me to want it even more. By the end of last week, my hopes were all gone. The ring was sold out in this colour and in all sizes, so I assumed that my first attempt to buy something online had failed.

So last Friday, I met with my bf and he said he had something to show me. Yes you guessed well, it was a gift-wrapped package from Net-a-Porter which contained The Ring (not the one from LOTR of course :P). I couldn’t wait to open it, but it was so nice that I wanted to take some pictures of it first, so I can share them with you!

This is the beautiful black box it came in.

And that had the little white one inside. Exciting! Then, I opened the white box to find the ring inside of a really nice dustbag. I couldn’t wait to wear it and prayed that it would fit my finger perfectly.

Unfortunately it had a plastic ring on it which prevented me from wearing it properly to see if it fits. How are you supposed to see if a ring fits if there’s a plastic thingy running through it, which says that they’ll only accept returns if only this tag hasn’t been removed? Of course with this on it, it fitted perfectly but as I predicted, it was a bit bigger for my finger when I removed this. I had to take the risk I guess. I wasn’t planning on returning it anyway, so I’m going to make it work somehow.

And now to the favourite part, the actual ring!

As Net-a-Porter says it’s a Gold-plated ring with a large oval mint-green glass embellishment with gold-tone flecks. It has a textured finish and a designer-stamped detail at back. Designer color: Aqua.

As you can see I ordered a size 7. I should have ordered a size 6 instead, but I must say I’m lucky that I didn’t order a size 8 (which I was initially going to order hadn’t it sold out in this size) based on the item’s measurements. To tell you the truth I was sure that 8 was not my size, cause I have relatively thin fingers, and I’m glad I was true.

All pics shot by me

I took this last picture to show the details of the ring. Am I the only one who can see my initial (M) in the design? It’s like it was made for me! Haha…What do you think? Do you like it?

P.S. There was a sweet note from my bf in the gift box :$. Visit my Facebook page to see the photo. Also, as I promised, I will show you my birthday’s outfit in the next post.

  1. Fantastic! I read the post yesterday, but because of moving-packing-issuing documents I couldn’t leave a comment (lack of time)! It is amazing, beautiful, fantastic color, texture, everything! I used to buy from net-a-porter and the nice black ribbon I wore-wear as a hairband – it always worked! (Making the most of the order!) Can’t wait to read a post where you are wearing the ring!
By the way, yes, I saw the initial M. there! It’s also mine and I think we have both the same nameday…? To keep privacy, maybe *** 15? And in Crete N. 21? I know you’ll understand…! Yes, my given names are D.M.! “Dyonisia” M.! Made always all much nicer to me in Greece!!!
Enjoy the new amazing ring and waiting to see the b-day outfit! In fact, I’ve been coming here for 2 days to see it! (But don’t worry, we all have thousands of things to do, so post it when you can!)

    • Thank you Denise! I haven’t thought of using the ribbon as headband, it’s a great idea! It was my first order from Net-a-porter and I’m glad I finally got the item.
Wow! Does Denise come from Dyonisia? You must tell me the story of how you were given this name, sometime. It’s so strange cause it’s indeed so greek. I’m not sure I undrestood which is your middle name though 🙁 Mine is a little bit unusual, and that’s why I’m not using it online. Oh I just had an idea of what your M might be!!! I’m still sleepy…hehe
Sorry I didn’t post the birthday outfit yet, I didn’t have the time to write anything. But I’ll try to post it soon, tomorrow, or maybe Saturday! And I’m giving you a hint! I was wearing the ring on my birthday, so you’ll have a chance to see it with an outfit! 🙂 Hope you’ll like it!

It’s not a problem, since it still has its watermark and you’ve included a link to my post. Thank you so much for doing this. Not many people give credit to the blogs they take their pictures from.
I’ll come by your blog to take a look and leave a comment as soon as possible! 🙂
