Not another wedding outfit

1 September, 2011

Last Saturday I attended the wedding of a very dear friend from high school. It was great and we had a blast at the wedding party, with lots of eating, drinking and dancing.

It was the first time that I watched an Evangelical wedding ceremony (I’m a Christian Orthodox myself), and I must say that I was impressed. Everything was lovely.

I chose to wear almost the same outfit I wore on my brother’s wedding last year, with small alterations.

Wearing: Max Mara dress, D&G clutch and shoes, and handmade “Eleutheriou jewelryearrings and bracelet. I had my nails painted coral, by Erre Due Exclusive, no. 40.

I love this shade of blue and I think it looks fantastic against my skin tone. I felt so feminine in this dress.

This is my snob look. Hehe…Well, not really but it seems like I’m being a snob.

Here’s the accessories’ close-up as usual:

To be honest, I took the pics before I was completely ready because I wanted to have enough time for the photos. So, for the wedding I ditched the Hakuna Matata bracelet I wear in these photos and of course I put my make up on.

I know I can’t show you the full make up (hiding part of your face has its disadvantages), but I can assure you it was really nice (I’m far from a make-up artist, or those girls who seem to be like one, but I was proud of it). The part I wanted to show you though, was my lips.

And that, I CAN show you:

Leaving aside, the “mask” and the messy room on the background of the pic, this is a close up of me, just before I leave for the wedding. It was meant to be a personal photo and that’s why I didn’t wear my sunglasses as I usually do.

I’m wearing a cherry red lipstick, with a pearly red lipgloss on top of it, which really gave so much to the outfit. Also wearing, only one of the two earrings, because of the wrap around braid hairstyle I had.

The lipstick is quite old, and unfortunately discontinued, but it’s the sheer honey one by Artistry (Amway), and the lipgloss is from Beauty Cycle (Amway again) and it’s called Garnet. That one I wear every day. It has a really soft red color and a sparkling effect.

The reason why I was really excited though was my hairstyle for the wedding. From the moment I saw the wrap around braid on Aquí, I knew I wanted to try it.  Even though Sara made a nice tutorial on how to make it yourself, I preferred to leave the job to my friend, who is a hairdresser. I’m only good with the classic braids not the ones who have the same method as the French braids. And I really wanted it to be perfect because I had a wedding to attend. So here’s the close up of the braid.

You can see Sara’s blog, Aquí on the background of the right pic, if you look closely, as I was showing the hairstyle to my hairdresser earlier.

The braid was perfect, however my asymmetrical cut hair, made it difficult to look too polished. As a result there were some hair pulling out of the braid, but we pulled some more to make it look more natural, and finished the hairstyle with tons of hairspray to keep it safe.

Nevertheless, I was really pleased by the result, and I got many compliments about it.

Ending this post with a pic of the shoes, as I usually do. I wore my D&G bow sandals again, which are the perfect match for the clutch.

They looked so cute with the coral painted nails. I know I’ve already showed them to you, but I couldn’t resist posting them again.

So, with this post finally coming to an end, I have to ask you once again. What do you think about this outfit and my hairstyle? Tell me all about it in the comments’ section below. And if you enjoy reading this blog, please show me your support by following any way you prefer. I would really appreciate it.

  1. this dress is so beautiful and you look great in it!and the side braid is lovely!your friend did a very good job!I hope you enjoyed the wedding!are there a lot of differences to an orthodox one?

    • Thank you Penny! The wedding was really nice, we had lots of fun.
Yes, there are a lot of differencies to an orthodox one. It seemed to me that they have more similarities to catholic weddings than orthodoxs. Really simple ceremony, all in plain Greek, music in the church, and many other things.

  2. You look – I know I said it before, but it’s true! – like a model! I was so much waiting for these pictures! I loved the dress, the style and the color (really a great color!), the fabric too! And M., you lost weight, right? I’m sure you did, the pictures show this! Not that you needed to, but I saw the pics and thought “she did lose weight!” What did you do? Gym? Oh, I need to lose weight, but I’m too lazy to go to the gym!
I love(d) the accessories too (you know, the clutch is fabulous, the sandalas amazing too!) Nice that you could wear such an outfit there, on Saturday – if I did the same here, I would freeze!
And now, not only the lovely dress and accessories, but the coral nail polish – that is my favorite color now! I liked the blue polish too, but I prefer this one – and the make-up was simply fabulous! I loved the lipstick, it suits you so well – the whole combination, the color of the dress and the lipstick, really great!
And the greatest detail to the end: THE BRAAAID! It was amazing! I would love to try it, but as you said, better if a hairdresser does it… no tutorial in the world will help me, believe me! It was so beautiful and added so much personality to the whole outfit, I’m pretty sure that next to the bride, you were the queen of the night! Thanks for the amazing pictures! (I’m not exaggerated, I really like your style and I’m your fan, you know!) Filakia polla!

    • Oh Denise thank you SO much! Those comments of yours always make my day. 🙂 First of all, thank you for saying that it seems like I lost weight. Wish I had, but I didn’t. In fact I put much weight during holidays, and from today I’m officially on a diet, because I can’t continue eating like this. It’s probably the dress which gives you the impression that I lost weight. I’m too lazy to go to the gym, as you said for yourself. I have to start going to water aerobic classes again, but I’ll have to lose some weight first cause I look terrible in my pool bathing suit.
In Greece it’s still pretty hot, and it was hot on Saturday too. Although these last days it did cool off a bit. I prefered the coral nail polish too, it was more warm, and it created a nice contrast to the color of the dress. I wish I could show you the whole make up too. Not that it was something special but I really liked it.
The braid was fantastic. I showed it to my hairdresser and she liked it very much. I though of this hairstyle for the wedding, from the time I saw it on Sara’s blog. Wish I could do it all the time.
Thank you so much again for all your sweet words for me! I’m glad you liked it so much. Filakia polla!

    • Thank you very much Katoula! I thought the bows on the shoes were too many when I first bought them. I was afraid I’d look too girly. But now I like them a lot.

  3. I think that this is one of your best outfits yet! (If not the best!) The dress has a beautiful color and shape, very ethereal and elegant – just like I like them!:)
It really fits your skin complexion:) And your bag and shoes with the bows are so girly!
Plus, I love your hair color and wish mine was longer so as to make a braid as well!
(έχω τρελαθεί στο βήχα εδώ πέρα!!!)
    Kisses!

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comments Chrysa! The truth is that this is one of my favourite outfits too. I had put so much thought into it, cause it was the outfit of my brother’s wedding. So I had the dress sitting in my closet for over a year, and I finally decided to take it for a spin! 🙂 I think of it exactly as you described it: Ethereal and elegant. You chose the right words.
I have almost the same colour for 6-7 years now. Some blond-ish highlights, which need urgent renewal. I have to visit my hairdresser to have them done again.
I hope you feel better soon!
Lots of kisses! 🙂 And thank you again!

    • Aww thank you sooo much for your sweet words Sara! Your blog is always inspiring, I love your ideas and style!
Yes, the base of my nails is big, so they seem really long even when they’re cut short. And my hairdresser loved your braid when I showed it to her. I think it was perfect for the dress. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
And of course it was my pleasure to add you to my blog roll. You have such an amazing blog. 🙂
