Preveza vacation – Day 3 | Travel

23 September, 2013

Day 3 in Preveza was really full, so I have to warn you that this post is picture-loaded. But a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m going to give you a small summary of the day, and then let you continue to the pics and captions to learn more. We decided to go to Acheron river on the 3rd day , and also visit the nearby Necromanteio (which was unfortunately closed). We skipped lunch to then go to Parga’s castle, and enjoy the view of Parga from there. Our day ended there, since we wanted to return to the hotel for dinner and stay in that night, which turned out to be a wise decision; at dinner time the skies opened and a storm hit the area. It was raining cats & dogs so we thanked our luck for deciding to stay in, and enjoyed a drink at our hotel. If you were following me on Instagram, you’ve surely seen some photos, but if you haven’t you can do it here.

Breakfast of the day: scrambled eggs, yogurt with honey & oatmeal, a small piece of cake and filtered coffee. Yummy!
First stop: Acheron river estuary/mouth.
From this point you can see the juncture of Acheron river and the sea. Acheron on the left, and the sea on the right.

Outfit of the day: Μ. «on the rocks».

Ammoudia is a huge Sandy beach on the right, with fantastic shallow waters, and small sand dunes.

Η παραλία Αμμουδιά. Μπορείτε να δείτε το μικρό αμμόλοφο στα δεξιά;
I couldn’t help but use the sand dune as a canvas for a bit of Do You Speak Gossip art. 😉
Do You Speak Gossip?

After enjoying our swim and tanning at Ammoudia beach, we went to find the springs of Acheron river.

Fantastic walk through the woods, full of my all-time-favorite plane trees, to see the springs. You can to do it, if you visit the area.
This is where the road next to the river stops. You can either go back, or get in the river and continue walking through it.
Seeing so many tourists walk through the river I wanted to try it as well. As you can see by my face, the water was freezing cold. Like you can’t even believe HOW cold!
I tried many times to get used to it, but the result was still the same. It was so freaking cold, and I was running to get out of it as soon as I could.
We weren’t the only ones who couldn’t go in. So we went back as you imagine and continued our day.
Beautiful local houses on our way to visit the castle of Parga.
One of the most famous beaches of the area:  Valtos beach. We didn’t unfortunately visit it, as we didn’t know about it until then. But you should!

As we skipped lunch, we decided to stay for ice cream and cold coffee at the café of the castle, and enjoy the view before we headed to our hotel.
This last photo is especially dedicated to my friend Denise, who is not only a great blogger and friend, but also a very talented painter. These people were sitting under the café and were painting the view of Parga, and the island of Panagia.

I hope you enjoyed this super huge post. I had so many things to show you that it was impossible to use fewer photos.

    • Thank you Jilly! The weather has changed a bit since then, and our temperatures have dropped too. Mostly at night though. Days are still quite hot. These photos were taken between the 10th and the 13th of September. 🙂

  2. More lovely pictures! I wish I was there! Can’t believe how cold the water is this time of year, it’s just right after Summer.. hehe. Parga’s Castle and the Archeron river is stunningly beautiful.. so are the little houses.. reminds me how much I love your country! x

    • hehe thank you! It’s always nice to hear that people love my country. Especially after all the politics that slowly turning everyone against us!
I think this was my favorite day of all! We saw the best places, and enjoyed the views. I’m afraid that that the temperature of the water doesn’t change much (if not at all) during summer. It’s because it’s a river and not sea. But sea water on this side of Greece is always colder in general.

  3. Thank you so much for dedicating it to me! I looooved to see you so beautiful and having fun! I love that printed dress, I told you! I am trying to find the picture I painted, exactly the same as one of your photos! The river must have been very very cold, really! Guess what, I am running after lawyers! Will tell you tomorrow! Makia and again, thank you, you are so sweet and wonderful!
