Vienna moments Part 3 (and last)

26 July, 2011

This is the 3rd and last part of my trip to Vienna. If you haven’t read the other parts yet, here you can find the 1st part and the 2nd part.

The 5th day, started really nice, the weather was hot and the day sunny, so we finally decided to visit the Schönbrunn Palace, to walk through its gardens and maybe visit the zoo too. So, we took the subway again, and headed there.

(You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Photos taken by me and T.)

There were a lot of people there, and we decided to start from its gardens (in case the weather changes again, to be able to at least see these ones), as we were unlucky with the Belvedere gardens the other day. We took lots of pictures, as we walked through them, and took advantage of its trees’ shades.

Beautiful Wisterias

In front of a small fountain with water lilies

Sitting on one of the benches, which were all over the place. Seeking for some shade from the hot sun!

Really weird weather those days! It felt like in those 5+ days we were in Vienna, the seasons kept changing constantly. All 4 seasons in 5 days! At first, when we arrived, it was Fall. Followed by a light winter, with lots of rain and wind, making us beg for winter coats and gloves. Then, the spring came, with lots of sun, but also breezy, and at last the summer came, with high temperatures and lots of sun. Crazy weather!

Boyfriend also tried to catch some shade, even though his hat was quite helpful.

I was wearing: Top (gift for my birthday-also seen here) unknown brand, Jeans: Tommy Hilfiger, shoes: Asics Onitsuka Tiger, sunglasses: Donna Karan (yeah I know, you’re sick of them), earrings: Guess, watch: Esprit, bracelet: Follie Follie, bag: Penny Black.  On my nails: Erre Due Exclusive No. 40, coral (seen here).

T. was wearing: Hat and jeans: H&M, shirt: Zara, shoes: Puma.

We spent a long time sitting on benches, because I was really tired from all the walking of this trip, and I needed to rest. And it was also too hot, to walk all the time.

On one of our bench stops we tried to take some pictures of us, together in the same pic. Yes, this one was the best, and coincidentally the only one in which we were making those silly faces. But, oh well!

Moving on! One more pic of me under some beautiful trees. I am in love with the colors of this pic!

After lots of walking thought the palace’s gardens we found the route to the zoo.

After thinking for a while whether to enter or not, we decided in favor of it.

I won’t bore you  more, with pics of the animals, cause there were lots of them. But as you know, I will bore you with some food ones instead. Didn’t really believe that I was THAT much of a food lover (as I told you on a previous post), ha? Gotcha!

As we hadn’t eaten a proper breakfast before leaving our home, we decided to stop for a coffee and some breakfast as soon as we got in the zoo. T. is too clever to ignore my cries for food, when I’m really hungry, cause he knows the consequences. Do I really have to send you to this post again, to see what I’m talking about? (Hint, see no. 2).

We shared two kinds of breakfasts, a French toast, and a sausage dish.

I also got an Eiscafe, which was simply delicious, even with the unsweetened whipped cream on top.

We proceeded to see the animals at the zoo, and we took many more pictures.

The only one I’ll show you though, is the one of a cute little squirrel who was eating and running free among us.

I got to see many animals, including some giant pandas, which were really cute too, while they were eating their bamboos. 🙂

One more photo of me, on a beautiful little bridge near the pelicans.

As a true tourist, I was holding the zoo’s flyer and my camera on the other hand.

We left the zoo, somewhere after 5p.m. to go to the city center to buy souvenirs for our families and friends.

Everything resembling a souvenir was extremely expensive, with fridge magnets starting at 5 euros! Tourist traps!

I visited a Lush Cosmetics store to buy something for my mother, and took some photos of their shopping windows, as the photos from inside the store were forbidden.

Everything looked like desserts and they smelled fantastic.

After that, we decided to finally enter Stephansdom, the main church, to see it from the inside too. It was amazing, even though we were in such hurry.

Later, we took our shopping bags home, and we met at our “point zero”, the Opera, which was our meeting point with our friend S. during our stay there. I couldn’t leave this one out of my post.

Our program continued with yet another night at Museums Quartier to meet another friend of ours, followed by a looooong walk home, cause we missed the last tram/subway train back home.

My feet were killing me, and I was ready to give up and sleep right there on the bus stop, when my boyfriend saved the night, and offered to carry me on his back for a few minutes, until we were closer to the apartment. How sweet of him! 🙂

When we got home we had to pack our suitcases, as we were leaving really early in the morning. That resulted in only 3 hours of sleep before we got up again to catch the train to the airport.

On the flight we were given fluffy muffins for breakfast. I couldn’t be more happy and hungry!

Delicious! Exactly what I needed! This and a cup of coffee! Check to both!

And these clouds marked the end of our journey, as we were ready for landing.

A really hot day was awaiting us in our home town, Thessaloniki!

I hope that this isn’t the last time I got to see Vienna or Austria in general. I already miss it.

Thank you for reading the last part of my 3 (huge and picture-loaded) posts, hope you enjoyed it too. I wanted to share the whole experience with you, as if you were there with us.

  1. Always super sweet and stylish! And I understand about “feet killing me”, even when wearing sneakers (uh… here in the UK, trainers). I constantly tell people, when they read “I couldn’t walk anymore”, and they kindly tell me “it’s because of the high heels you wear”…, so, back to the point, I always tell them it has nothing to do with it – wearing high heels or flat shoes, it’s the amount of walking that harms, not the heel! Even when wearing flats my feet hurt after 6 km, believe me – I would be abnormal if not!
I loved the picture where you are in the middle of plants and branches, looks like you are coming from a heart, loooovely!
And you and T. sending a kiss to each other, also lovely! As well as the squirrel later, I love squirrels!
So, I totally loved the post, as usual, and I also hope you go back to Vienna one day… what about London? Come visit it! Would be great! (And I’ll go with you to maaaany places in London! I invited MFD some months ago, we have to set a day! I’ll suggest her the 3 of us, and if T. wants to come, of course too – but he has to go to women’s shops…)
And after reading about the muffin… I declare I need one now, I’m hungry!
Great holidays you had, I’m happy for the sunny weather you got after all! Filakia polla!

    • Thank you Denise! You’re so right about the heels. My feet always hurt after a while, not matter what shoes I’m wearing (heels, flats, or sneakers/trainers)!
I wasn’t sure whether to put the picture with me and T. or not, ’cause it’s a little bit personal, but I did it in the end. And that’s the most personal it can get on this blog, I guess.
The muffin was delicious! One of the best I’ve ever eaten, especially during a flight. Aegean airlines also have some delicious cookies, I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.
Thank you so much for inviting me to London. I would love to come, but I don’t know when I’ll be able to. But it’s definitely in my plans, and of course I’ll let you know if we decide it. Unfortunately, I don’t travel so often abroad. Maybe we can change it. hehe
For now, I’ll have to settle for some more days in Chalkidiki, and relaxation at my house here in Thessaloniki.

  2. I m so glad the weather was so nice in Vienna!I totally wish I could have a picnic under those trees!
ps)isnt a good breakfast the best? english breakfast is the only thing i like in UK! 🙂

    • The weather was fine only the last 2 days. The first ones, the weather was terrible.
English breakfast is the best! It’s my favourite kind of breakfast, I can’t eat the greek ones (bread with chesse or marmalade).

  3. What a great adventure. I loved the pics and you’re right the greens in those pictures of you in the gardens are just FAB.

I went to Austria once on a ski vacation – such quaint little villages!

    • Thank you Deidre! Unfortunately I didn’t visit any villages, only the city of Vienna. But the city was wonderful and the palace gardens were just amazing.

  4. beautiful gardens!!! i love green spots and, unfortunately, here in athens we dont have many 🙁
i ve never been to austria, thanks for “taking” me there!

  5. No matter how comfy dress myself for traveling at the end it’s exhausting, because it’s diferent environment and lots of walking, seeing. Sometimes after these kind of holidays I feel more tired then ever, but still so many amazing impressions.
You both look so gorgeous ! You have seen so beautiful places and had so much fun, thats great!
You look pretty as always darling!

    xoxo Ra

    • I felt more tired too during my holidays. All this walking and waking up early was really tiring.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🙂

    • Thank you j! Yes, the gardens were breathtaking and the food, sooo delicious! It’s obvious that you have Italian blood! Hehe…Greeks and Italians are big food lovers!! 🙂

    • Thank you so much for saying this Cess, it’s been my pleasure, taking you all “with me” in this trip. I hope I’ll have more photos of my trips to show you in the future. I need to travel more often!

    • Yes, it was an amazing place! I really enjoyed being there, especially on such a sunny day. No, I didn’t get the chance to try Sacher torte. Something about the fact that it can be left off the fridge for so long, made me not want to try it at all. However, we make this cake here in Greece too. I know it won’t be the same, but maybe I’ll have the chance to try the original one in the future.
